YouTube emphasized the vital role of countering misinformation as technology advances and AI-driven tools gain prominence. The platform vowed to take swift action against content that has been manipulated in a way that deceives users and causes real-world harm.

Ishan John Chatterjee, Director of YouTube India, explained during a media briefing that the platform has well-established community guidelines dictating permissible content. In response to a question about YouTube’s content moderation strategy in light of AI’s capacity to replace humans with AI avatars on screen, Chatterjee acknowledged the challenge of content moderation in a changing technological landscape.

He highlighted that, apart from guidelines against violent and graphic content, YouTube’s policies strongly discourage misinformation and content that has been manipulated to mislead users and cause harm. Chatterjee pledged that such content would not be tolerated on the platform and reiterated YouTube’s commitment to enforcing these policies consistently, particularly in India.

Chatterjee pointed out that YouTube continuously refines its processes and technologies to tackle this challenge. He mentioned that earlier in the year, Sundar Pichai introduced two measures for addressing AI-generated content: metadata and watermarks. These tools assist viewers and YouTube in identifying AI-generated content.

Addressing misinformation holds significant importance for YouTube, Chatterjee emphasized. While substantial investments have been made to combat this issue, he acknowledged that the work is ongoing and YouTube will continue to invest in this area.

As YouTube celebrates 15 years since the launch of its localized version in India, it shared insights into how Indian creators’ creativity and evolving audience preferences are shaping trends in content creation, consumption, and pop culture. The platform is dedicated to expanding creative tools, monetization opportunities, and meaningful engagement between creators and audiences while maintaining a safe environment.

Chatterjee affirmed that YouTube remains dedicated to becoming the foremost platform for long-term success. He highlighted key trends illustrating the influence of Indian creators and fans on the digital video landscape and creator economy. These trends include streamlined creation, versatile consumption across different formats, and an array of creative tools that have led to an increase in diverse storytelling and impactful content.

According to YouTube, a survey found that 69% of Gen Z in India appreciate creators producing content in various formats such as short videos, podcasts, and live streams. The consumption of content in multiple formats has become effortless and seamless for 71% of viewers who are interested in specific topics.

In summary, YouTube underscored its commitment to combating misinformation, adapting to technological shifts, and fostering a vibrant and secure environment for creators and viewers alike.
